It consists of a compact "laboratory bench" device, similar in size to a stack of Post-It notes, and a mobile app that allows users to operate the system via their smartphone.
Q: HOW DOES PURPL PRO WORK?
A: Purpl PRO employs near-infrared spectroscopy, a technique that involves illuminating a sample and analyzing the light it reflects. In this specific part of the light spectrum (just beyond the visible red light), molecules react to distinct regions of the light, creating a unique "molecular fingerprint" that correlates with concentration. The device has been calibrated against measurements from multiple state-certified testing laboratories using HPLC.
Q: HOW ACCURATE IS PURPL PRO?
A: Purpl PRO boasts an accuracy of approximately +/- 2% for THC and CBD, simplifying for ease of understanding. Statistically, the accuracy is closer to +/- 1.89% for THC and +/- 0.96% for CBD, as determined by comparing results with lab HPLC measurements.
Q: WHY DO SAMPLES FROM THE SAME PLANT SHOW DIFFERENT RESULTS?
A: Variability in natural products like cannabis is the primary reason. Factors such as time and location contribute to this variation. For example, colas and larf (lower, less developed parts of the plant) exhibit different flower characteristics due to their position on the plant. Even within the same flower, there can be potency differences between the cola and lower canopy. To obtain a more averaged result, we recommend grinding a sample.
Q: HOW DO I GET THE MOST CONSISTENT RESULTS?
A: Following the device's instructions precisely is crucial, as the Purpl PRO is a scientific testing device. Grinding the flower sample is essential for proper sample homogenization. Avoid including seeds, stems, or other non-flower material in the sample, and ensure the sample chamber is properly filled before compression with the cap. Despite these measures, a slight variance of about +/- 2% between readings is expected, reflecting the inherent error in the predictions.
Q: DOES PURPL PRO REQUIRE AN INTERNET CONNECTION?
A: Yes, the Purpl PRO requires either a WiFi or cellular network connection to communicate with cloud servers that compute and store the results. Lack of connection will result in errors displayed in the Purpl PRO app.
Q: CAN PURPL PRO MEASURE EXTRACTS?
