SuperSoil is the result of Hot Composting a number of components such that the end product contains everything your plants need to thrive. The SuperSoil Kit will produce 100-150L of premium SuperSoil based on the popular SubCool recipe. SuperSoil is ideal for lining the bottom half (½) of a pot, allowing you to use regular potting mix for the remaining volume of the pot. The idea behind SuperSoil is that in mimicking the richness and diversity of a well-established rhizosphere you should never have to adjust the pH or deal with nutrient imbalances. WARNING: If you come across SuperSoil that claims to be finished in 30 days, watch out! The Thermophilic process will only just be beginning to wrap up at the 30 day mark. Proteins, fats, cellulose, and lignin will not have completely broken down at this stage. If the volume of partially cooked SuperSoil is not large enough, the composting process will halt until it again reaches a critical mass. As such, do not purchase SuperSoil that has not been completely cooked, or you will be purchasing an incomplete product!

How Do I Use The 'SuperSoil' Kit?

There are a few approaches you can take when cooking your SuperSoil, but the most widely accepted as the best is outlined below.

You will also need:

Manure and/or compost, more variety is better. Options include Mushroom compost, Green Compost, Vermicompost, Chicken manure, etc.
2 or more tarps or an adequately sized container that can be covered.
Room for the compost pile.
A Shovel/Rake/Hoe/Appropriate tool to mix the components.
Water

The Process:

Empty the contents of your manure/compost on top of a tarp spread out on the ground in an area that gets good sunlight.
To the manure pile add all dry amendments except Alfalfa Meal, Neem Cake, Kelp Meal, Wheat Bran, Malted Barley
Gradually water down the pile. The OGS Aloe Vera Ferment can be added to the water to promote the multiplication of microbes and kick start the process. DO NOT ADD WATER TOO RAPIDLY - Adding too much water will cause your pile to start off anaerobic! SuperSoil should be moist but not soggy while composting!
Using a shovel or other appropriate tool, mix the resulting pile until it appears homogeneous. Cover the pile using another tarp (or the lid of the container you are using)
Over the next 2 weeks, the pile will enter its thermophilic stage. Over this time period regularly mix the pile, and remember to keep it covered. Mixing loosens up the compost ingredients and increases the infiltration of oxygen that is needed by aerobic microorganisms.
If everything is going well, the microbial processes will cause the pile to be hot to the touch.
After the thermophilic phase has been completed, the compost temperature will drop back to around 20 degrees Celcius. At this stage you may add worms to your compost pile, doing so sooner would cook them!
Allow the composting mix to cook for 60 days. Be sure to keep it covered and maintain its moisture content throughout.
Once your SuperSoil has completely composted, you may add in the Alfalfa Meal, Neem Cake, Kelp Meal, Wheat Bran, and Malted Barley.

Note: It is imperative that you regularly turn your compost pile so as to avoid it becoming anaerobic.
